We have to be quite clear about specifically what we mean when we state we desire to "save the college," the poignant but vague phrase so many are using currently, obviously with great sincerity.
Those in power on the Antioch University Board Of Trustees include themselves and their decision to close Antioch College down in 2008 as "saving the college," or at least claim that publically.
If Antioch College is to be saved, it must be kept open past July 2008, and the decision to close it must be opposed and stopped. Resources gathered to "save the college" must be used to keep Antioch College open, and to oppose those closing it, probably in court and probably using lawyers.
Mr. Zucker '55, Antioch U. BOT Chairman, stated emphatically in his July 23, 07 public message "To The Antioch Community" that the decision to close down Antioch will not be reversed. His minion, Mrs. LaPierre, VIce-Chancellor of Antioch U., also stated this emphatically about one week ago in a public message to an inquiring Antioch College alumnus.
As far as the Antioch U. BOT is concerned, the reversal of the wrong decision to close down Antioch College in 2008 is NOT on the table.
Groups of Antioch lawyers who oppose the closedown of Antioch College in 2008 must be gathered, funded, and must conceive and implement strategies and actions to block the wrong Antioch University Board Of Trustees' decisioin. Only legal action, injunctions, and other efforts to question the legal status of the Antioch University (HQed in Seattle WA USA) Board Of Trustees to have made the wrong decision they have to close down Antioch College will work now.
All energy must be directed now at doing this. We must all unite behind legal efforts to keep Antioch College open past the set July 2008 closedown date.
We need to stay on target, and not get sidetracked with other issues and messages.
"Saving Antioch" means keeping it open, and moving to oppose those who have moved to shut the school down.
Best always,
