BOILERPLATE PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM YAZZ ALLEN '66 ABOUT THE CURRENT JULY 2007 ANTIOCH COLLEGE, OHIO, CLOSEDOWN CRISIS

July 2007, Shrewsbury PA USA
Hello Everybody!

People have asked for my opinion about the current Antioch College closedown crisis, which I lament, but am not optimistic about.

In a nutshell, here's my overall take on what's happening, FYI:

"Antioch University" without Antioch College founded in 1852 is a 5 school (three west coast schools, biz school in Ohio, and teacher school in New England) diploma mill aimed at night school ed/ vocational training of the type and with the mentality which currently makes the University Of Phoenix popular and rich.

The CEO of Antioch U. wants to sell off Antioch College assets and use them for her University Of Phoenix type school (set of 5) called "Antioch" but not at all connected to the Antioch we went to.

Real estate and other assets are ALL hers if/when she pulls off her assassination of Antioch College, Ohio. Big money.

That's what all this is about.

The CEO (Dr. Toni Murdock, "Chancellor") of Antioch U. "sold" an assassination program to stupid and lackluster trustees who bought into it, now won't back down because they look bad (for good reason). They are sticking to their guns, and won't budge.

This is NOT about money.

It's about power for the "University Of Phoenix" type Antioch U. school, sans Antioch College.

People who buy into the Antioch University Board Of Trustees' claim "not enough money" is the problem fall into the trap set by the Antioch University BOT and Antioch U. CEO.

The money raisers will NEVER get money enough to stop the BOT decision.

The "get us money" thing is a stall. The money the trustees claim is needed:

1) Isn't needed. The school can limp along OK and poor, like many times before, and keep going. This is an artificial crisis.

2) Is a high dollar amount the current money raisers will never raise...thus allowing the BOT to say "you didn't offer/ give us enough" and then go on to do their thing...close Antioch College.

What is needed is legal action AGAINST the BOT and the Antioch U. CEO ("Chancellor").

Currently, the discussion at "official" alumni sites and venues are all about money... and this will sink Antioch College for sure.

The "official" Antioch Alumni Assn. is all about the money raising thing.

I'd say, at present, the bad guys are winning, will win, and Antioch College will close down for sure in 2008, right on schedule.

I'm neither happy nor optimistic about what's coming and what's happening.

The main thing is to remember "the way we were" and I did the ANTIOCH ADVENTURE 2007 video I offer to everybody for almost nothing (actually nothing for people who can't pay) so Antioch College "won't be forgot."

A Rosetta Stone type permanent memorial should be erected in Yellow Springs, Ohio telling Antioch College's story, and describing its many victories and challenges over its 156 year history. Like the real Rosetta Stone, it should be made of rock which doesn't decay due to weather, which can stand up for thousands of years, tell Antioch's story in ancient languages and oriental languages likely to be with us after the English language disappears. Those of us left behind should do this. Keep the memory of Antioch College alive forever, even if the college comes to an end permanently.

Best wishes always,
Yazz Allen '66 (aka David Allen '66)

Yazz's Boilerplate

Yes Yazz - this is artificial to the Nth Degree.

People must understand... How to spend dollars is a choice. They could have chosen another budget plan. This is completely a choice they made.

By their announcement of their choice, the BofT have pretty much decimated the school.

But... all of us allowed the process to be weak. The process has not been inclusive nor transparent. Without good process I am pessimistic about what is happening. Though I have to say, process at Antioch while I was there was poor and the school has managed to remain viable all these years. I think if any school could create good process it would be Antioch, and I have always wondered why it has not seen fit to do so.

Thanks for your comments Yazz. Or should I call you Yazz #2 now?
